S. Daukantas granary

  S. Daukantas garner is located in Kalvių village, Skuodas district which is S. Daukantas birthplace. In 1793 a great historian, enlightener, folklore collector S. Daukantas was born. From S. Daukantas parents homestead until this day only one building is remaining – the garner.
  In 1981 the garner was supported with new lumber and reed roof. Memorial museum for Simonas Daukantas is established there. The main room is enriched with history about S. Daukantas, hes creative work. Another room is filled with ethnography goods. Garner in which S. Daukantas lived and spent his vacation is arranged and set by original period peasant life theme. Another room is dedicated to Jurgis Pabrėža work, who was first lithuanian botanist. Teacher Stefa Anužienė was concerned about the establishment of the museum and S. Daukantas commemoration.
  Monumental rock is located in the yard which has an engraved lettering saying that in this homestead in 1793 first lithuanian writer, historian Simonas Daukantas was born who wrote, published books in lithuanian language. To commemorate Simonas Daukantas, literary prize was founded. Every two years for works of fiction related to historical themes a literary S. Daukantas prize is granted.
